DIY Idea, Geomentic Leather Key Chain

Geometric patterns have been so popular lately and sure enough inspired me to make something "edgy" as well. I started this key chain with the idea that I'd give it to my mom for Mother's Day but liked it so much I think I am keeping it. I'll make her another one.
I first cut out two circles and one rectangular out of leather.

I used chalk to mark the corners. First I made the first four marks(like 12, 3, 6, and 9 on the clock). I then added two extra lines in between each of those.

Before I begun sewing I placed a drop of glue between the two layers to keep the pieces together. I started stitching from the "first" mark, skipping three, to the "fourth".

After I got the triangle shape I stitched towards the "fifth" mark and started stitching the triangle again by skipping three marks. I almost forgot to sew in the holder loop.

I made sure to finish all triangles and stitch along the edges. Then I erased the chalk and applied some baby oil to the surface and the edges of the finished key chain.

Wow - tres chic - love it. Can I ask what needle you used to sew the leather? Mine seem to break and bend under the pressure whenever I even place a piece of leather next to the sewing machine! I think the thought of all that effort brings my machine out in a rash.... Lucy xox

I have been carrying around my keys with a piece of ribbon tied through them. Needless to say, I need a key chain.

I love this idea and I happen to have some leather hanging around. I might stuff a little padding in the middle since the leather I have is pretty thin. Thanks so much for this tutorial!!

Your key chain is very beautiful and looks so easy to make. Although i think it might not be as easy to make it symetric...

I LOVE this! What a great idea! Your stitch work came out so perfect, it looks like an automatic machine must have done it!
