Having some leather left from my previous project I decided to make a passport cover. This handmade piece is quick and easy and is a perfect gift idea for the man in your life.
1. Cut three pieces of leather: one - 5.75" by 7.75" and two - 5.75" by 3.75".
2. Sew two smaller pieces along the edges of the larger piece as shown below. I reserved about 0.25" to 0.5" for seam allowance. Trim the edges with a rotary cutter.
3. Fit the cover on to your passport to make sure the size is right.
4. Design. I used water based acrylic paint and slightly stretched the leather during the drying time to minimize the cracking afterwords. Three layers was plenty.
Your passport cover is done! If you'd like to get some tips on sewing leather using standard sewing machine I recommend this post.
